The Avignon Mimosa

Too many A few years ago, my husband and I were on vacation in Avignon. In the summer. During a heat wave. All hopes of breezily skipping across the famous bridge in a crisp sundress and perfect hair melted away as the temperatures climbed above 40 degrees C (104f) and then kept right on climbing.

As long as the sun was up, everywhere we went we were greeted with a drink called the “Avignon Mimosa”. These are light and refreshing and are just the thing to perk you up on a hot day (or a day when you would like to pretend it is hot).

Don’t get me wrong, we had an amazing trip and I am looking forward to someday going back. In the meantime, though, I can make these incredibly easy drinks and imagine I am back in the plazas of Avignon.

Makes: As many as you would like.

Ingredients:

  • 1 part pink grapefruit juice
  • 1 part rose wine

Directions:

Just combine the two ingredients and give them a quick stir. You can do this in individual glasses but I suggest using a big pitcher instead, so you will be ready to pour for your favourite friends.

Pour over ice if that is your thing.

Notes:

  • This is not the time to break out the good wine. Also, if you have some rose wine that has been sitting in the fridge for a bit too long, this is also a good place for that.
