Everyone deserves homemade cookies, even especially the dogs in our lives. Dogs are extra fun to cook for because they are always ready for a snack and don’t mind if things turn out a little less than perfect.

These cookies are beyond simple. You only need 3 ingredients. They are also very flexible, you can use the recipe as a base and add in whatever you like, just make sure that it is dog-friendly!
Hands-on time: 10 minutes
Total time: 1 hour 10 minutes plus 8 hours drying time
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup canned pumpkin (not pumpkin pie filling)
- 1 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1 egg
Directions:
- Combine canned pumpkin (1/2 cup), whole wheat flour (1 1/2 cups) and 1 egg in a large bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer
- Knead ingredients together or mix with the dough hook of the stand mixer until dough comes together
- Wrap tightly and refrigerate for 1 hour
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees F
- Roll refrigerated dough to about 1/4 inch thick and cut into shapes
- Arrange on a cookie sheet, it helps to line the cookie sheet with a silicone mat or parchment paper
- Bake for 20 minutes
- Important: do not open the oven at the end of the 20 minute back time, just turn the oven off and let the cookies sit in the oven while it cools off, leave the cookies in the oven for at least 8 hours or overnight before opening the door
*Note – according to my dog, these are delicious frozen!
